Random and Boring - chapter 1

Tag: Uncategorizedammogirl @ 2:01 pm

I am going to start a new "thing" if you will.  Meaning, I will do this once and then probably never do it again, but it sounds fun (to me) at least (at this moment).  So, the new "thing" is as follows:  when I write a post that is full of items totally unrelated to each other, AND it is also stuff that probably you will not find interesting, I will title it "Random and Boring - chapter <X>" and then label the paragraphs so you can pick and choose what you want to read.  Want to fall asleep?  Pick Boring!  Want to get a glimpse of my stream of conciousness?  Check out Random!  It’s a sort of Choose your own Adventure post!  And will probably be around for a LIMITED TIME ONLY, so get your fill today!

(Boring)I just wrote a big, long, boring post about work and then decided too many people read this blog.  But basically I said my long slow death by micromanagement is finally over.  For a brief time, at least.  Thank god.

(Random)You guys, I want to ask everyone to go to Miss D’s page.  Did you do that? Is her page up in another window, this very moment?  Good.  Now, Miss D herself is in that photo you see…she is the extremely cute girl with an obviously fantastic personality right in the middle…the one with the black cowboy hat.  Black, because she is ‘bad’, hence the Miss Devylish…get it?  (*If, perhaps you are reading this at a later date, the photo I refer to is on her May 28, 2006 post) Anyway, I want every single one of you to right away post a comment telling her that her new haircut, no matter how bad she THINKS it looks or how straw like it seems is actually so cute that you want to die.  And while you are there, I would look around and read not only THAT post but several others as well, because it will be a nice change of pace for you to read someone’s blog that is actually funny. For once.  And then you can come back and tell me thank you.

(Random AND Boring)I am having a problem right now, and I don’t know how to fix it.  You see, I was playing around with this site, upgrading my account, changing things up (behind the scenes stuff…I’m tech savvy like that, you know) (I’m TOTALLY, COMPLETELY, 100% not telling the truth by the way) I managed to somehow press just the right combination of buttons to make everything on my screen very small.  I need advice…but first let me say, it is NOT my screen resolutions, I checked.  They are still set at the same setting they have been at since I recieved this laptop on my last birthday.  And, everything else on my computer is normal size…it’s just the internet stuff.  It’s microscopic…and it gives me a headache and is making it very hard to post.  Anyway, I am soliciting advice, please help me, anyone.  Well, anyone that can actually SOLVE this problem.  And please, quickly!  EDITED TO ADD:  Oh.  Forget it, I fixed it myself.  EDITED AGAIN: Oh.  I mean, I totally DIDN’T fix it.  Send help now!

(Neither Random NOR Boring, but quite possibly CONTROVERSIAL!) Now, I debated writing about this but it IS pretty cool news so….Some of you might not know that the girls are living with their dad up in Alaska while I’m stationed in Korea.  I point this out only because I found out today that Taylor shot her first bear on Saturday! She was extremely excited because Lindsey got HER first bear two…I think…years ago, and Tay has been dying to do the same since.  So, I am proud, happy, and excited for Taylor, because she accomplished something that she wanted to do.  The reason I was on the fence about telling you guys is because quite frankly, some people don’t like hunting and don’t like guns, and while I don’t think that YOU guys would start long mean-spirited debates in my comments section about gun control and animal rights, it IS a fairly controversial subject.  So: For the record, I myself am not a supporter of hunting or guns, BUT, the girl’s dad is.  And he is very, very knowledgeable and experienced with gun control and safety and is extremely careful when taking the girls out hunting.  So.  I don’t mean to sound rude but PLEASE don’t email me or comment on how you do or don’t like hunting or the dangers of guns and how my kids should not be around them.  There is not a whole lot my ex husband and I agree on, which is a pretty good reason why we are divorced, ha ha, but I do know that a) he knows more about gun safety and how to properly use a gun than anyone reading this (except YOU, JOE) and b) he would never, ever put our kids in a dangerous situation, EVER.

And, one final (Random!) thing: Remember how, so very long ago, I went to the doctor and got 4,929 lab tests done?  And how I keep checking back every so often and am told my results aren’t back yet?  Well!  You will be happy to hear that there ARE no results, because my SAMPLES were never SENT TO THE LAB.  Sure, the local ones were done, but the REALLY IMPORTANT ones, the ones that will tell me what I need to know, which is that I am FINE, and nothing is wrong with me?  They never got shipped out.  Yup. Guess what I’m doing tomorrow?

I was feeling a little out of sorts yesterday, you know, more tired than usual, hot, headachy…but it wasn’t until after I took a short nap that left me feeling, if possible, LESS refreshed than I had felt pre nap that I realized I had the bird flu.  "Well, crap," thought I (or maybe I said it - I WAS a bit delirious, you know) "BIRD flu…certainly NOT fabulous!" and then I spent the rest of the evening writing good bye letters to members of my family.  Which is why I didn’t post yesterday. What! It’s true.

I did happen to make it out of my room today though; as you are all aware, now is the time of year when people, good intentions well in hand, make their way to the store to buy what is possibly the lamest card ever: yes, I speak of Father’s Day Cards.  Dads, I feel sorry for you, because I truly feel that when it comes to cards, you have gotten the short end of the stick.  Fathers day cards aren’t pretty!  They aren’t cute!  They come in four colors only: brown, hunter green, black or grey.  They all have gold writing.  And every single damn one of them features either a fishing pole, golf clubs, an old car, or a duck decoy.  And, if you are like me, and are stationed at Kunsan AB, these cards are also written entirely in Spanish.  It is apparent that there might have been a bit of a purchasing mix-up at the ol’ AAFES warehouse, because there are two sections for Father’s Day cards set up, but the section just to the right of the Spanish selection?  The section that I can only assume is supposed to contain cards written in English?  It’s empty.  And not like sold-out empty, where there are one or two really horrible cards left over for last minute shoppers.  No.  Empty as in NEVER FULL TO BEGIN WITH.  So, Dad.  Let it be known that I am holding out a bit, but if it comes down to the wire (the wire being 9 June), you had better habla espanol, if you want to read your Tarjetas de Día del Padre.  I’m just sayin.

After the BX, I came home still feeling a little like crap and decided, "Eh. I’ll just put in Saturday Night Fever - maybe I can take a nap." Now, I realize it’s an old movie, but sadly, until today, I had not yet seen this brilliant piece of cinematic work.  You guys, WHY did no one ever tell me ABOUT THIS MOVIE? The dancing, oh lord.  Is that what disco-ing people DID?  REALLY? Oh, how utterly fantastic!  The level of cheese required, that absolute showy ridiculousness?  Do you not see???? I WAS BORN TO DISCO!!!!  In fact, as soon as the credits rolled, I felt energized!  I was rejuvenated!  Completely HN51 free, I immediately jumped up and practiced my boogie.  I might even venture to say…Disco-ing could possibly become…the new Kah-rah-tay.

Also, the BeeGees are bad ass.  I must admit I was a bit surprised when "How Deep Is Your Love" started up and I knew every word…but then I remembered that when I was in the fifth grade, two girlfriends and I sung it for the School Christmas Program.  That and "Open Arms" by Journey, and no, I don’t know what exactly either of those songs had to do with Christmas…but I digress.  The BeeGees are the sound track to my life of Boogie.  But it’s not just them!  Look at these songs!  I will not linger long on the fact that I am old enough to remember them all, but instead will lament the fact that I wasn’t old enough to fully appreciate them then!  Sighhh…I was meant to be the Dancing Queen.

I now have one purpose in life: to bring back disco.

The Ebert & ammogirl Fabulous Movie Review

Tag: Uncategorizedammogirl @ 4:56 pm

Occasionally in the military world, the powers that be will determine that a reward is in order; a treat, if you will.  Well, today being the day before Memorial Day and all, our treat was a movie marathon at the base theatre.  And the best part?  It was free!  And wouldn’t you agree that EVERYTHING is better when it is free?

So the movies I saw, in the order I saw them: The Sentinel, with Keifer Sutherland, whom I have loved since he was the head Lost Boy.  It was pretty good, kept you guessing, bla bla.  The Inside Man was next.  It has Clive Owen, and if you have not seen that movie, you must DO SO NOW.  And then, there was Poseidon.  And…okay.  Soo…it…well it has Josh Lucas.  And while he didn’t take off his shirt or anything, he is still very nice to look at, especially when to do so means you don’t have to look at the actual movie.  I’m sure the original was much better, right?

Oh, AND there was a Superman preview, and while until now, I haven’t thought much of Brandon Routh…let’s just say his costume is very nice.

So, to recap: Keifer Sutherland, Clive Owen, Josh Lucas and Brandon Routh in full Superman garb.  A nice way to spend the hours of 4:30pm to 11:15pm, I have to say.

It’s almost June, you guys.  I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but time?  She goes by fast.
