The day after Mother’s day

Tag: Uncategorizedammogirl @ 2:57 pm

I’m tiredy, you guys, very very tiredy.  Sunday nights are the worst nights for sleep, in my world.  I’ve tried everything: waking up early on Sunday mornings, getting some exercise early in the day, not drinking caffeine after 9 am, melatonin…nothing works.  I can be utterly exhausted all day Sunday, and stare at my bed longingly, but the.very.minute I lay down to go to sleep, I’m wide awake.  I know what it is — knowing that I have to wake up and go to work seriously makes me that anxious.  Anyway, it’s really no big deal, I just wanted to elaborate on my tiredness.  I don’t have any reason to be plagued with stupid anxiety attacks concerning work, I just think I sometimes over worry and/or stress about things.  And that I might tend to be…oh…you know.  Dramatic.  MAYBE.

Okay, so yesterday the FUNNIEST THING EVER happened to me, but I couldn’t tell you, because it was Mother’s day, and I couldn’t tell a funny story and then segue right into the part that actually MADE PEOPLE CRY.  So I had to wait, because really, it was my mom’s special day and all.

So anyway, yesterday morning I woke up (way too early for a SUNDAY, by the way) and immediately set off for a walk along Path.  I was set on walking the entire 5 miles, and I was making excellent time and really enjoying myself.  When I reached the 2.5 mile marker, I had to turn around.  Well, either that, or just stop and sort of stand there, and I really had to pee, so… As I was walking back, I heard a “whirrrrr” to the right of me (the base side), and because it sounded like a robot and thusly entirely out of place, I glanced over, curious as to what I might find, and stared right into the barrel of a large caliber machine gun!  See, we share the base with the South Korean Air Force, and one of their outposts is along that path, and they were sighting their weapon on the ocean when I walked by – the whirr was them kindly redirecting the (BIG) barrel so it wasn’t pointed right at me.  I am not ashamed to tell you, I almost peed my pants, and I am not joking.  I jumped, and my hand came up, (because THAT would stop it, right?) and I sort of ducked, and I said “OH!”  and the two Koreans that were sighting that gun?  They kind of giggled and said, “HI!” Hmph.  Well, my heart was pumping a little quicker as I continued my walk, for realz.  Now, of course it wasn’t loaded, and they weren’t being malicious at all, they had no idea I was there and truly moved it as fast as they could when they first noticed me.  They were just doing their beginning of day routine, checking out the vehicles, opening up the building, sighting in the GINORMOUS GUN.  You know, those kinds of things.  Oh well, I certainly got a laugh out of it…I can only imagine how much fun they had retelling that story.

Now!  I am exhausted, and it is way past my bedtime.  I hope everyone had a great day yesterday, and either spent the day being spoiled (all you moms), or spent the day spoiling someone (everyone else).  Next year, double spoiling for me, to make up for this year!  Yay!

Actually my mother’s day was spent mostly in Laffette LA, because that is where my flight had to divert to because of weather in Houston. Then on top of that while we were holding trying to get to Houston the PA system went nuts and I was not able to make PA or speak to the Captain. So once we landed in Laffette, we had a problem. Of course it is a NO GO item and let me tell you that I was more than willing to go on with the “it worked when I left” theory but the capt played capt and made a command decision and we had to call in maintence from 2 hrs away and then when they could not fix it we ended up ferrying the plane back to houston, leaving 50 very unhappy passengers in LAFFETTE LA of all places. Then didn’t get home until 9pm and Ashley was asleep by then and I had to wake her up and bring her home. Poor baby! But I did get to sit in the cockpit jumpseat so that part was cool at least!

I think you deserve a Mother’s Week to make up for this year, girl! Glad you managed to avoid the machine gun, though. One would think that an experience like that would interrupt your sleep.

Um.. I must not be military enough to find that funny. I think that’s sorta scary.. but um.. ok. Glad you have perspective.. Me and your mom will be over here.. you know.. NOT worrying or anything!
