Good thing I had coffee…there at the end.
Whew, that last post was a doozey, huh? Seriously - the jet lag has offically kicked my ass. I think today I might actually be able to stay awake past 8pm, since I was able to sleep past 3 am. Not much longer, mind you, but still - longer.
Alright! First things first! Because today was the girl’s first day at school (I cried! It was stupid! They are in 6th and 7th grade, for god’s sake!) I have today off. Wait. Actually, because my New Fabulous Job is SO fabulous, I actually don’t have to go to work until Thursday, and THAT is only because I feel guilty about not being there. It really has nothing to do with the girl’s first day of school, it just sounded better than "I am not working". So. I have been running around all morning taking care of bidness. You know - dry cleaners…cell phone…setting up a local bank account so we can pay rent…that kind of stuff. What’s that, you say? Why am I so quick draw on setting up an account to pay rent? Wellio! I would love to tell you! It is because we found a house on Saturday. Yes, that is fabulous!
Here, read the rest of the story!!!
See, Butch, the most awesome ice-cream buying sponsor everrrrr volunteered to take us around house hunting on Friday - did I already tell you that? I don’t think I did - anyhow, so we looked at one house on Friday, and while it was nice, it was like…meh. You know, I COULD live there, but I wouldn’t really want to. I was actually a bit disheartened, but picked up a bit when we were able to schedule three more go-sees for Saturday morning. The first one was at 9 am, with our friendly local realtor, Frank. Frank was very friendly and very tall. He had two houses for us, neither of which we initially had inquired about…but, alright, I’ll go with it (is what I thought). So, Frank got in his car (Mercedes - and hello, BMW Mercedes Volvo and Audi EVERYWHERE YOU TURN), and we jumped in Butch’s car, and off we went to the town of Mackenbach. Now, let me just add - it is very uncommon to see a freestanding house around here. It seems like the majority of places are either townhouses or duplexes, and they are tall, rather than wide - which is fine, just different. With this knowledge in mind, I, obviously, was well prepared when we pulled up to the first place, and it was a duplex. And, all of that information is pretty unnecessary, but, look. I haven’t posted for like three thousand years so, I’m wordy. Moving along. We pulled up to the place, and I immediately thought "Ohhh, cute!" It was a duplex, three-story, on the left side, facing the front of the house. It was a very pale yellow, with a darker yellow trim around the bottom - think lemony, and you’ll pretty much have it. When we walked inside, however…ohhhh inside. I INSTANTLY fell in love. In LOVE. It is brand spankin new - in fact, the inside is not yet finished - and the set up was perfect. It’s about 2100 sq ft, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a huge loft (Huge. Like, GINORMOUS). The floors are heated. It has a pantry. The walls are painted another yet another fabulous shade of pale creamy yellow. The landlord accepts cats. (Bonus - I guess it’s very hard to find landlords that do so). It faces north/south, and it’s ten minutes from base, and the girl’s bus stop is RIGHT THERE, and it has a garden shed, and a small yard, and it’s right next to a golf course (but not so right next that I have to worry about stray balls. Hee hee, balls) and holy crap I wanted that house. Next paragraph, to provide you a small break…
Okay, so, the only problem was, we still had two other houses to look at, and one was with a different realtor. We couldn’t cancel, because apparently, you should never pick the first house you see. Even if you love it. Even though it worked when we actually BOUGHT a house, and I knew I loved THAT. Hmph. We were meeting the other realtor at 10:30, so while we were waiting, Frank the German realtor took us to a different house, but it wasn’t open. One down, one to go, I was sure I wouldn’t like the 10:30 house, and was feeling pretty happy with the situation- then Frank told us he was showing the FIRST house, the perfecto house, to another family - and my stomach INSTANTLY clenched. Seriously, I wanted to throw up. It is so hard to find places around here…oh shit, I only have FIVE MINUTES LEFT BEFORE I GET KICKED OFF????? Yikes! Alright, taking a deep breath, and, go: so we saw the other house, and it was nice, but I didn’t love it, and it wasn’t set up as nice, so we called Frank the German Realtor up, and we told him don’t let anyone take it because we wanted the perfecto house, and we met him five minutes later AT the perfecto house, and signed the contract and all that crap, and it will be finished next week, and we can move in on the first of November. In the meantime, you guys, perfecto house! Yay me! I will take pictures and post them - when, I don’t know, but soon.
And I’m done! Two minutes left - publishing…publishing….
Auf Wiedersehen!!!

Ohmygod you are funny! I’m so imagining you typing furiously and so fast just to finish this little spiel of yours (Get that? ‘Spiel’? Bet it’s German! ha!) and yay on the house! Awesome! Moving in on the day before my birthday and everything! Pretty fantabulous!

Yippee! I’m so glad you guys are settling in! Hope the girls had a great day at school today, T. And I can’t imagine how deliriously wonderful it must feel to be back together with your family. Things are looking up, eh?

I’m so excited for you! I don’t know what it’s like in America, but here and in England, landlords always say ‘no pets’ but seem fine about you ignoring this rule. At least that’s what I tell myself when I ignore this rule. The house sounds so fab, and such a boost to get it sorted so quickly. Where abouts in Germany are you? I’ve never been. Now, I’m so far away there is so much of Europe I wish I’d seen when I was closer. Ho hum. Can’t wait for those photos!

Hey girl, sorry I kinda fell off the face of the earth there for a little bit. I am currently working 2 jobs and plus the full time single mom thing, I have been a little busy. But I just finally read all your post from the last 2 months and I am very happy for you. Congrats on the 5 year anniversay, on the job and also on the finding a house. Tell the girls and John I say hi and I am glad to hear that you are all doing well. Is there a Bret Berryhill that works with you at USAFE HQ. Is so tell him I said hi too. I worked with him at Luke. I will TRY to get my page caught up tomorrow. I have to get ready for a trip. I am hoping to not be flying again for a while. I applied and interview for an instructor positon with the airline and I will know on Monday, so wish me luck!!!
