sad face

I went to dental sick call today because I have this stupid tooth that’s been bugging me the past couple days, and ended up with 1/4 of a tooth drilled away and replaced with amalgam.  And an appointment for a temporary crown, which is the last stop before aNOTHER root canal, due to STUPID CRACKED TEETH.  The dentists are always so amazed when they see I’m not being dramatic when I say I know it’s cracked.  They start out all, ‘mmhmm…cracked.  well, we’ll see.’ and then after drilling a bit, are like, ‘Oh!  You said CRACKED!  I thought you meant something else!’  Like today, when the dentist wanted to do a superficial filling to replace what he thought was the beginning of a cavity causing discomfort.  He only gave me one shot (ONE!) and then commenced drilling.  And drilling.  And then stopping and looking, and drilling some more.  And then getting a closer look with a light and THEN saying, ‘Huh.  Well, it seems that…there’s a fairly sizeable crack in this tooth.’   I just closed my eyes and nodded my head, as he picked up the drill again, but by THIS time, the one-shot dose of novacain had started wearing off and I COULD FEEL IT.  But not that bad.  I yoga breathed through it and also, I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF PAIN!  HA HA HA!

Not really.  But I did yoga breathe through it and the dentist could tell I was uncomfortable (possibly due to the jerky twist I was doing with my legs) and got it done quickly. I just didn’t want another shot, to tell you the truth.

But that’s not the worst part.  When he was reconstructing an entire cusp of my molar, I…FELL ASLEEP!  With TWITCHING!  THREE TIMES!

The third time, when I jerked my arm out to the side and tried to open my eyes like I had done it on purpose, the dentist said, “Are you falling asleep on me?”  And I said, “YGHHhgHH”.

I wasn’t embarrassed though, because he assured me it was a compliment.

Tschuss!!

Do you grind your teeth in your sleep? I think I asked that before. I do and some of my teeth are cracked from it.

I wish I could sleep through dentist appointments.

Yuk - hate dental appointments, but it’s amazing how you can get through a rough one by clenching the muscles in your feet and legs, isn’t it? I’m proud of your courage! Laughing in the face of pain, indeed!
