twenty three
Today has been such an perfect day. Leila cancelled yoga, leaving me with extra time on my hands, so I jumped into the kitchen and I really haven’t left all day. I started out with tonight’s dinner, crockpot chili, then moved on to regular sandwich bread, cinnamon raisin bread, and corn bread.
I changed chili recipe slightly, substituting 1/2 bag black beans and 1/2 bag navy beans because I wanted to. I started soaking them last night, and I’m really excited to see how this turns out; it’s the first time I’ve ever used dried beans before. It smells good, anyway. And after many, many attempts at homemade cornbread, I finally found a recipe that has batter that tastes like the Jiffy mix, but EVEN BETTER. I am not a cornbread purist, with the dry and non-sweet that entails. Nope, I want it like cake. Yum.
This is going to be a great week, because it’s only three days long. Work-wise, that is. All I have left to buy for Thanksgiving dinner is the fruit and veg trays, potatoes, celery and onion. And I’m sending John out to brave the Wednesday-before-Thanksgiving chaos (with a list, of course), so really, stress free. I thought about being really ambitious and making bread, letting it get stale, and using it for stuffing, but I caved and bought some Pepperidge Farm stuffing-in-a-bag mix. It’s good, it’s simple…I don’t want to spend ALL day in the kitchen.
When did this blog turn into Ammogirl Cooks? Jeez.
It’s supposed to snow all week here. I am the only person not excited by that.
Tschuss!!

I’ve got my Julia Child hat on today too! Guess it’s the cold weather. Chicken and dumplings with homemade bread tonight here! (I’m with ya on the cornbread-I step it up a notch though, with butter and syrup. NUM.

So glad you had a restful day. As far as I’m concerned, Sundays are for cooking.
