I realized when I was writing that title that I haven’t really been correct date-wise.  I mean, I’m CORRECT, but not in the sense of this is how you actually say the date, which is what I meant to do.  But then I realized that had I gone with my original plan, I would have posts titled “eighteenth” and “eleventh”  so I decided on the spot that my new way was much better.

I was asleep by 8pm last night, and it was nice.  I’m reading a really great book right now (In Defense of Food, Michael Pollan) and I thought I’d get at least a chapter read but there was no way.  Lindsey woke me up around 930 to ask me a question (WHYYY?), and I got up to pee, but besides that, out for the count.  I was kind of hoping I would be sick this morning because today at work we were having our annual “Wingman Day”, where we do fun activities with people we work with but not with , if that makes sense.  Like, I have a small office, there are 18 of us including me, but we are part of a division of however many people, and then a directorate of like, 700 people.  Or something.  It’s more than 500, I’m sure.  So, you can see that perhaps I don’t exactly mingle with all 700 of those people on a regular basis.  Wingman Day is supposed to fix that, and I was really dreading it because last year, we spent the entire morning walking around base doing “games” in 30 degrees and snow.  It was quite possibly the least amount of fun I’ve had ever.  So leading up to this event I was sort of cranky about it, to the point of filling out the post-Wingman Day survey before it even started just so I could write in the “What do you think could improve Wingman day for next year” comment portion, “Um, possibly not having it in November, in GERMANY?  Duh.”

Of course, I didn’t write exactly that, because I don’t want to, you know, get a talkin’ to.  But the message was the same.  However, Wingman Day THIS year consisted of going to the 3rd floor of our building, pairing up with one of the 3rd floor people (who then became our Wingman for the day), and doing some fairly amusing team-building activities.  Like count M&Ms in a jar and answer really lame trivia questions.  When that part was done we went to lunch and then directly to the bowling alley for Wingman Day bowling, and for the first time of my life I played more than three frames without becoming unbelievably bored and impatient and antsy and believe it or not, I actually didn’t do so bad.  DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?  Yet another win for Zoloft.  I could totally make a commercial out of that:  Bowling got you down?  Pop a Zoloft and STRIKE! that anxiety and depression away!   Awesome, right?

Tonight we (John and I) (John only because I was totally forcing him) were supposed to go watch Twilight but on my way to meet the girls for the money hand-off it started SNOWING and I was all, fuck this.  I am SO NOT DOWN with snow and cold, AND THEN!  OMG!  I almost forgot, on my way home, there was some traffic on my road that NEVER has traffic, and I was like, jesus christ, WHAT is going ON but then I saw cop lights and my line of traffic was waved through and there was a car with a crashed hood/front end and I thought, “that looks odd, I wonder how he di…OH.”  Because a TREE HAD BLOWN DOWN and SMASHED HIS CAR as he was driving by. Not 15 minutes before I drove by!  IT COULD HAVE BEEN ME!  (The guy was alright, btw.  Just not his car.)  So, you can see that after all those traumatic moments (blizzard-like conditions, sub-zero temperatures, hurricane-level winds, and FALLING TREES), I was in no condition to trek out to the movies.

John was “upset” that we weren’t going, and then we watched last night’s episode of The Office, and the latest Life on Mars (I totally dig that show), and now I’m posting.  And toasty.  I like heat.

Enjoy your Friday!

I woke up totally cranky this morning, and now I have a sore throat and my tummy hurts.  I know that everyone holds their breath until I post, anxiously awaiting my next witty story.  However, today I must disappoint.

I’ll be back tomorrow, don’t worry.  A lowly virus can’t keep me down forever!

Who is freaking awesome?  ME!  I am freaking awesome!  Because not 25 minutes after I posted about my broken washing machine yesterday, I got all inquisitive and fixed that bitch up.  Yep.  All by myself.  See, there’s this collection drain at the bottom of the machine–oh.  We have a German washer and dryer, btw, and if you’re wondering, yes.  TOTALLY different.  In a better way!  Like, the spin cycle is faster than the speed of sound.  It sounds like a jet engine, no lie.  Clothes come out of there 75% dry.  Anyway!  Back to the drain!  It’s not a drain you have to drain, so much, but more like a wet lint trap.  Stuff goes there to die, yeah?  Not very often have I opened it up, because there’s never been a need.  But for some reason yesterday I thought, “Hm. Perhaps I shall open that drain.”  So I did, and I immediately regretted it, because all those gallons of water I talked about yesterday?  All came pouring out at once.  I was like, oh, GREAT, because WHO WANTS FLOODED ANYTHING?  Fortunately it stopped after only covering 1/4 of the floor, and when I reached inside the drain, there were things!  A lot of things!  90 million in Euro coin!  A safety pin!  And the culprit, a mini brass knuckle necklace (not mine)!

What happens, is when the spin cycle is going, the water gets sucked from the inside washy part, and down this tube, bypassing the drain (which is more like a lint trap, remember?) before it gets sucked down the drainage pipes.  Well, inside the lint trap thing is a fly wheel, and I think that…well, I initially thought it spun the inside thing but I’m not so sure.  Whatever, it’s supposed to spin, but the necklace had become all wrapped up in it, and it couldn’t move.  Therefore the inside thing couldn’t spin, therefore the washing machine wasn’t working. I pulled out the necklace, put everything back together, then started my machine back up: VIOLA!  I am a mechanic!  However, although I have total faith in my mad mechanic skilz, I did all the laundry last night and today.  You know, just in case.

Today I had off, remember?  I got up, drank my coffee, took the girls to school, came home, worked out, ate, showered, and then ran errands.  I was home by noon, got my two papers written and turned in by 5, and then I made dinner while Taylor made the coleslaw John was tasked to bring to his Thanksgiving fete tomorrow.  Don’t ask me, I don’t normally think “coleslaw!” when I think about T-Day.  At least it was easy.

After this (or maybe tomorrow morning) I have to do the red beans and rice for MY Thanksgiving fete, and also I think I might actually…work on another (not due) school paper!  I know!  Who IS this person?

I had tennis tonight but I cancelled because days off are tiring.  I need to recuperate.

Tschuss!!
